Hungarian conductor Gergely Madaras was named 2025 ‘Conductor of the Year’ at the Bartók Radio Awards. He served as Music Director of the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège from 2019 to 2025, where his successful tenure was marked by him being named an Honorary Citizen of the City. The 2025/26 season includes high-profile symphonic debuts at the Dresden Philharmonic and Staatskapelle, NDR Elbphilharmonie, Hong Kong Philharmonic and also with Welsh National Opera (Tosca), return visits to the NHK Symphony Orchestra, to Luxembourg and Oslo, the Bournemouth Symphony, BBCNOW, the Hungarian State Opera, in addition to a special project with Hungarian Radio Symphony celebrating the 100th birthday of György Kurtág. Concerts with the Oslo Philharmonic, Budapest Festival Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic, BBC Philharmonic, Hallé Orchestra, CBSO, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI and with Il Pomo d’Oro and Joyce DiDonato at the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam are some recent symphonic highlights. Gergely was the inaugural Sir Charles Mackerras Fellow at the English National Opera. In the past, he has led critically acclaimed productions at the Dutch National Opera, La Monnaie and the Hungarian State Opera. In 2021, Gergely conducted the final of the Concours Géza Anda with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich.
