Franz Xaver Ohnesorg

Franz Xaver Ohnesorg, President

Prof. Franz Xaver Ohnesorg is one of the most distinguished music and culture managers of recent decades. He was born in Bavaria. After serving as the Intendant and Director of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and Cologne Philharmonic Hall respectively, he was appointed the Artistic Director of Carnegie Hall in New York – the first-ever non-American to assume that post. He had a decisive impact as the Intendant of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra during the directorship of Claudio Abbado. His many activities have also included founding the internationally renowned Klavier-Festival Ruhr, and he will be stepping down as its Intendant in late 2023 after more than 20 years in the post. He has been awarded countless honours, including an honorary membership of the German Music Council and the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art, First Class. We are delighted to welcome Franz Xaver Ohnesorg as the President of the Jury for the 2024 Concours Géza Anda, a position that he already held in 2006.
